More than 180 women from twelve Soroptimist International clubs in Skagit, Island and Snohomish counties attended an Area Meeting in La Conner on Saturday, February 21. The SI La Conner club hosted the event which raised $2,420 for the La Conner Sunrise Food Bank and $1,000 for Soroptimist International programs.
La Conner mayor, Ramon Hayes, Chamber of Commerce Director, Heather Carter and SI La Conner President, Maureen Harlan, welcomed attendees to Maple Hall which was decorated in spring flowers to enhance the theme: “Blooming with Possibilities, Planting the Seeds of Dreams.”
Presidents from each of the twelve clubs shared their experiences, challenges and successes for the year as they worked to develop the Soroptimist Pillars of Success: Fund Raising, Programs, Membership, and Public Awareness.
Special guest, Valerie Stafford, spoke on “Finding Your Personal Power” as she shared her powerful story of overcoming abuse and addiction to become a successful marketing professional, writer, fitness expert and motivational speaker.
Following the meeting, attendees spent the afternoon shopping in downtown La Conner and at the Soroptimist Vintage La Conner Thrift Store.
Many persons and businesses contributed to the success of the meeting by providing flowers and other items to decorate the room and stage. Thank you to Go Outside, Lizz and Co. Hair Design, La Fontaine Flower Shop, Hulbert’s, Roozengarde, Christianson’s Nursery and Linda and Don Zimmer. Additional thanks go to SI La Conner members who created floral centerpieces for the tables, provided beverages and delicious breakfast cookies for attendees, and worked long hours to prepare Maple Hall for the meeting. Kudos to Karen Marshall, Project Chair, the Area Meeting Planning Committee members and all those who helped to transform Maple Hall into a colorful, warm and welcoming venue for an inspirational day.
